BT Redcare Alarm Signalling Service Ending: What You Need to Know

BT has announced that they will be discontinuing their Redcare alarm signalling service as of 1 August 2025. If your alarm system relies on BT Redcare, it's crucial to plan for an alternative before this date, especially if your insurance policy mandates a working alarm system.

What Should You Do if You Use BT Redcare?
If your alarm system is affected, you'll need to find a replacement solution as soon as possible. This is especially important if your insurance requires an alarm system that meets specific standards. The best alternative should offer the same level of performance as your current BT Redcare system.

Single Path vs Dual Path Alarm Systems
Insurance-approved alarm systems are classified as either Single Path (SP) or Dual Path (DP), and further categorised (e.g. SP3, DP2). To match the performance of Redcare's GSM system, you'll need a Dual Path (DP) alarm system with at least DP3 certification.

Replacing Your System with a Dual Path Option
There are only a few alternatives to BT Redcare. A dual path system with DP3 certification (BSEN50136-1:2012) should meet most insurance requirements. Be cautious, as some systems (e.g., SP2) may not meet the same standards as Redcare, and insurers may not approve them as comparable products.

Why Act Fast?
Delays are expected as we approach the August 2025 deadline, with potential shortages in both products and installers. It’s advisable to act now to avoid any last-minute issues.

How to Choose a Replacement System for BT Redcare
When selecting a new alarm system, ensure the following:

It’s installed by a company certified by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) or the Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB).
It’s maintained annually by a regulated installer. Your insurer may require proof of this maintenance agreement.
